We live near a star on the edge of our spiral galaxy (Milky Way Galaxy). If you get out of city lights, you can see the Milky Way, what you are actually seeing are other stars in our galaxy. Imagine what the sky would like like if you were on the edge of one of these colliding spiral Galaxies.
